No Autographs, Please

Guess what!!?? I'm on YouTube! How awesome is that?? If you type in "Ellen Who Dat," there I am, in all my yellow, Ellen-hugging, celebrity-guessing, Idol-ticket-winning glory. It's just as exciting to watch it now as it was just a few short weeks ago. For me anyways. Some people may be a little sick of it, but I don't care! I love it and it makes me sooooo happy! :) x a million! Also, this means JC is no longer the only one of us on YouTube. I don't have the dancing skills he does, but I DID get to hug Ellen. So that is pretty awesome.

Anyways, speaking of Ellen, I watched today and I was reminded how much I love the show and how badly I want a job there! I can't really explain it, but it makes me wish REALLY bad that I had some sort of amazing talent so I could go on the show and do something to impress her. But alas, I have no talent so I have to figure out another way for her to want to hire me without looking like a total creepster. A girl I work with said she met Ellen's personal assistant in San Diego at a Whole Foods. Sadly, this girl did not pass along my resume and/or phone number, so I don't know if that is going to get me anywhere, but I still think it is pretty random and awesome. We'll see what happens. I've got high hopes something good is going to come my way. I seriously get so emotional watching sometimes! It makes me sooo happy and I just get like, overwhelmed or something. Gosh, I sound like a total crazy person so I'm just going to stop talking about it because I don't want to weird anyone out. People have been asking me lately just exactly why I love Ellen so much and it's mainly because she is doing exactly what I want to be doing with my life someday: laughing, dancing, and helping people! How amazing is that combination? Just take out the being gay, vegan and blonde part and I pretty much just want to be her. There is nothing wrong with any of those things, I'm just not them. Also, I would look totally silly as a blonde.

Ok, really stopping now. In other news, nothing exciting is going on. All is resolved at work, I'm not getting fired and I possibly got a raise. My boss talks in circles so I am not sure exactly what happened when I asked about it, but it could be good. I guess we'll see with the next pay check. Now I must go watch the Lady Gaga Glee, which I am positive is going to be beyond amazing. Sorry I'm lame tonight.

1 down, 44 to go

Wooo, good weekend! Not so good Monday, but that is for later.

Saturday I baked (yes, BAKED) two chicken pot pies and had a multi-cultural Rock Band party. It was fantastic and the pies were delicious, if I do say so myself. In fact, my stomach is growling right now just thinking about them. It may also be because I didn't eat any dinner, but whatever. Anyways, it was a good night and then I stayed in bed until 3:00 the next day. I had no real reason to get out, so I just didn't. Plus, it was REALLY cold outside and my bed was all nice and cozy. It was really the smart thing to do. When I did finally get out, I made a trip to the 99 cent store and tried In-n-Out burger for the second time. It was waaayyy better than the first time I had it and now I can see why everyone is all about it. The burgers are really tasty and super cheap...can't get any better than that!

Actually, FREE things are better than that. And you know what was free today? A Jack Johnson concert at the Santa Monica Pier! It was pretty awesome. Left work, worked out, sat on the beach and listened to Jack Johnson. For free! And he played my favorite song right at the end! Hooray! All that and still ready for bed at 11:00. Go me. It's nice to end this day on a good note because I was freaking my freak out today at work. There was some slight drama with one of the students and I was really stressed about it because if things didn't work out, I would be in BIG trouble. I am not totally in the clear, but I think it's going to be ok. The student also made me pretty angry, but I was proud of myself because I kept my composure and didn't completly shut down/bitch her out like I sometimes (usually) do. So go me again!

I love LA

Going to Tarantino this post and go backwards. Here we go.

Wooo, Dodgers game last night! So fun! Here are some highlights:

-It was "Empire Strikes Back Night" so the first pitch was thrown by Chewbacca and some Storm Troopers. Amazing! Apparently the movie came out 30 years ago. Sorry, still haven't seen it. But, free posters were being given away. Fun! I gave mine to the person I went with. They also "Star Wars-ized" the players when their picture was on the Jumbo-tron and did other random Star Wars things that were both ridiculous and hilarious.

-Someone got proposed to on the Kiss Cam! Too cute!

-Dustin Hoffman was also on the Kiss Cam....he was making out hardcore, it was totally hilarious.

-This random man in front of me turned around at the end of the game and hit me in the leg with his rolled up Star Wars poster. Then he looked up and realized I was not his daughter, who was sitting next to me. So funny. And I got to hit him back.

-They played 'Don't Stop Believing' for everyone to sing along too (they even had the words up on the scoreboard!) and the camera was on this fantastic goober up on the top row, singing along and getting really into it. He was awesome.

-The guy that sang the national anthem and God Bless America was TERRIBLE! He was the voice of someone in the cartoon version of The Empire Strikes Back. I can't believe we are in HOLLYWOOD and they couldn't find anyone better to sing. Oh well...it was still entertaining.

-The Dodgers won! Hooray! 4-1, against the Detroit Tigers.

-Our tickets were $9...amazing! I love cheap fun.

Anyways, that was my Friday. Thursday I went to a bar in Long Beach to see a friend of a friend's band play. There were three other bands playing and they were all REALLY good. Also, the bar we were in is where they film the bar scenes in True Blood. So that was exciting. Especially since I just watched the first few episodes of that crazy show last weekend, so I totally recgonized it. Hooray!

Wednesday I had another happy hour that turned into a happy all night affair...only this time with less drinking. I went out with some students for sushi and it was so fun watching this guy from Israel try to manuevor his chopsticks. He eventually broke down and got a fork. Then there was a little party for another student's birthday and that was super fun. I taught them some awesome drinking games. The first one is "Guess What Number I'm Thinking Of," which was made up on a road trip I took with crazy camp people a few years ago. The students didn't really think it was all that fun, but whatever, they're foreign, they don't know any better. Then I taught them Circle of Death (or Kings) and they all thought I was crazy, but it was still fun.

Tuesday nothing interesting happened. Monday we went to dinner at Bubba Gumps, which was uncomfortably touristy, but they had the best staff singing birthday song I have ever heard. You can also order cocktails in light up glasses that you can take home, so that's always a good time as well.

Ok, well now it's 10:00 on Saturday morning and I have no idea why I'm up this early. But, I've got some shit to do today, so I'm going to get to it. By that, I mean clean my room and make myself some lunch. Exciting!

You're gonna like me

Yay, a new ridiculous website!
http://www.awkwardfamilyphotos.com/

And here is my favorite entry so far: http://awkwardfamilyphotos.com/2010/04/07/swingtown/
Oh man, that made me literally lol at work. That poor kid! Haha, it's fantastic! Some of the pictures on there make me cringe a little, but that one was hysterical.

As a side note, PLEASE do not ever let me take pregnant belly pictures, in the event I ever decide to get pregnant. If I do take them, be totally uninterested when I show them to you. For real, I might have to learn the hard way that pregnant belly pictures are awkward and WRONG.
Ok, just wanted to share! Nothing really interesting going on here. Wait, I can probably think of something.

OH yes, I forgot to share my awesome metro story from Saturday night. It isn't as fun as the last metro story I had, and it is nowhere close to the most interesting thing that happened that night, but I'm going to share anyways.

So there is this really short man wandering around the metro station asking people for money. As a general rule, I don't give people money unless I am getting something in return. And it has to involve a legit cash register. Whatever, anyways, I may or may not have been a little tipsy (you decide) and was eating a European croissant (to be said in a European accent, you know the one) I had recently purchased at Famima!, the best convenience store ever. I was feeling generous, so I asked the name if he wanted the rest of my croissant. And you know what he told me? Not only did he not want it, but he told me he ONLY eats steak and potatoes! I mean really! Come on, it was all the way from EUROPE! Just kidding...obviously, in hindsight, it was probably a little rude/presumptuous to offer someone half-eaten food, but if I were walking around begging people for spare change, I, for one, would not turn down food. And I certainly would not have the attitude that anything but steak and potatoes is too below me to eat. For starters, only eating steak and potatoes is not healthy, you need fruits and vegetables as well. Furthermore, you would have to collect A LOT of spare change from people before you could feasibly feed yourself ONLY steak and potatoes. And that is if you only ate it like, every 3 days. Anyways, point is, people are total goobers. He was later trying to relate to this ridiculously tall man (6'5'' or something) about how it's hard to get girls when you're really short AND when you're really tall. The tall guy was like, ok, whatever. And I was all, it's probably hard to get girls when you have to ask strangers for change to pay for a date (that was what I was thinking) and will only take a girl out for steak and potatoes.

As a parting note, I would like to discuss the TV I watched yesterday. First, I watched Ellen and was laughing hysterically at Steve Carrell. His impression of his son was so fabulous. The rest of the show was obviously fabulous as well, they always are. I still get really jealous of the guests, but it's getting more bearable. Then I watched the tail end of American Idol and was pretty excited because they sang some of my favorite songs, especially one by my boy Eric Hutchinson! I talked about him a looong time ago and how much I loved his CD and yay for AI for picking good songs. And yay for me for being cool and hip by being into music BEFORE it goes all mainstream. And one guy sang Hallelujah, which is a fave as well. It has been a fave for a very long time now, thank you very much. Lastly, I watched Glee and it is just making me so happy. It seriously is so funny! Well, Rachel annoys me pretty bad and it can have it's depressing moments (ugh, irreversible spinal cord injuries are SO depressing!), but singing the Safety Dance song makes everything better.

Thank you, that is all.

Out of control

Out of control. That is what I am. But I LIKE it! Also, not really, but I did have some interesting experiences this weekend and some fun times were had out in Hollywood. And sorry, but I'm not telling you about all of it. Mainly because I'm embarrassed.

Oh, wait. Let me back up. Remember cute bus guy? Yes, well I finally worked up the nerve to say something to him. Of COURSE, he sits next to me on the day when I haven't showered and look like a total hot mess and probably smell bad.  But whatever, I went for it anyways. After nervously racking my brain for something to say, I finally take a deep breath, annnddddd..

Me: Do you know where a hardware store is around here?
Him: No, not on Wilshire, I don't know of one.
......

Me (in my head): fuuucccckkkkkkkk.

So that was it. I know what you're thinking. Hardware store?? What?? Let me explain. First off, I really did need some hardware. I need screws for my shelf because Ikea didn't provide them (actually, I think my mom threw them away on accident), and I thought maybe the conversation could continue on that vein. Something along the lines of him asking me what I was doing and me explaining I just moved, need to put up a shelf, etc. And then he would offer to help and/or ask me out for a drink. But no, he didn't say anything else and I wanted to die. Major fail. Very sad. Now the question is, can I ever say anything to him again or should I just shut up forever? I'll probably shut up forever. I'm so mad. And the best part, there is a hardware store like, right at my stop but I was too mad to go in and now I still don't have any damn screws. Also, I already knew where the hardware store was, but I thought playing dumb was a good way to get a guy. I've seen it work before. Multiple times.

In conclusion, Friday was a total fail with boys. Saturday night was slightly more successful, but still pretty lame. But that is for another day. Right now, I have never wanted a chicken sandwich so bad in my  life, so I'm going to find one. My roommate is also listening to horrible screaming music and I need to leave the house. Until next time....

I Feel Fine

And let's hope I stay feeling fine because I found out yesterday I have to go back to the doctor because I had an abnormal pap smear. Yikes! But I haven't been feeling bad or anything. Right now, I feel pretty great. Hungry, but great. So fingers crossed all goes well when I go back in a few weeks.

In other awesome news, Heaven on Earth is currently playing on Pandora at work. YESSSSSS. My Friday afternoon just got one thousand times better. It is still crazy boring, but at least I am listening to fantastic music. ARM PUMP TIME!

Ok, back now. This week has been kind of dumb. Boys are dumb, no news there. And I almost died yesterday. By that, I mean, I drank WAY to much Wednesday night and was struggling in a BIG way on Thursday. I didn't take off my sunglasses until lunch time. It was kind of pathetic. But, Wednesday night was SUPER fun, so it was totally worth it. Happy hour turned into a happy night. Basically I got a little carried away at happy hour and ended up drinking much more than I was planning on. So of course, I was like, well go big or go home and I didn't want to go home, so I went BIG. Basically, I drank a lot. I hung out with friends and some of the students from school and then a friend (aka the coolest person ever!) and I didn't want the night to end, so we continued on. Things were not looking good because the first three bars we went to wanted a cover charge! On a Wednesday! Yeah right. We were actually on our way back to the car (I think, this part is a little hazy) and we ran into a pub crawl! The guy in charge offered us a wristband so we joined up with a bunch of foreigners and sang live Beatles karaoke at a British bar. Live Beatles karaoke means there was an actual band playing. They were all dressed like the Beatles and had the haircuts and everything! It was awesome. We sang Twist and Shout and everyone loved us. Actually, I don't know if that is true, but we had tons of fun. Then I dropped my drink on the floor and the glass broke, so I ran outside because I was embarrassed. Thankfully, we moved on to the next bar quickly and I will never be showing my face at that other bar ever again. If I can remember where it was. More karaoke at the next bar! That is how you know I am way too drunk, because I don't normally do karaoke. I'm not really a big fan of it. Take a wild guess at what song we sang next. Hint: It's the best song ever. If you don't know the answer, we are obviously not very good friends and/or you are not a true blog fan and I don't want anything to do with you. Anyways, that bar was totally ridiculous. I got a massage, danced with a guy in some sort of zoot suit, sang karaoke, and probably did other things I don't remember. Anyways, then we went home and spent 20-30 minutes trying to get in the apartment. Something is wrong with the lock and finally we had to wake my poor roommate up and make him let us in.

After all that nonsense, I was not feeling anywhere near fantastic at work the next day. I suffered through, ate some french fries and things were better by the afternoon. Until I went home and couldn't get in the apartment again. I spent an hour trying to get the key to work and gave myself a blister in the process. Stupid thing. Then I watched Ellen and Glee and life was better. Glee got a lot better this week, especially since Jessie's Girl was sung. Yay 80s music! And obviously, Ellen just makes me happy beyond all reason. Although, I do tend to get a little jealous of the guests sometimes and I can't deal. I need to work on that. There was a kid on this week that did a Lady Gaga cover and it was AMAZING! I was jealous because Ellen loved him AND because he played the piano and sang really well and I wish I had talent like that. Or any talent at all really. Sigh.

Ok, well I think it's going to be a good weekend. If anything, there is going to be a lot of sleeping involved and I am always happy about that.

Dream big people! :)

I Wanna Hold Your Hand

Ok, people. As a disclaimer, shit's about to get real. This shit right here, this shit right here. Yes, about to get real. For real. So don't read if you can't handle the realness. I am not kidding, I don't want to hear any complaining.

First off, I suck at talking to/flirting with/attracting/understanding/holding the interest of/getting anywhere with boys. It really is just very sad. And confusing. I just don't really get it. I am awesome in all ways imaginable and now I'm a freaking TV STAR, so what is the problem? I don't really know. I do know that I made a fool of myself Saturday night via phone (whyyyy didn't someone take mine from me???) and went home alone, as always. It was a very sad evening. Well, it was only sad at the end. Because the housewarming party was really fun and lots of people came. And, we didn't have any complaining from downstairs, so I was happy. Earlier that afternoon I had taken her (the crazy cat lady curmudgeon downstairs) a cupcake and explained what was going on, hoping she would be ok with the noise at least until 11. I also worked in the Ellen angle and asked if she was a fan. Of course she was (who isn't), so we bonded over that. She had not seen my show, but I told her all about it. And she told me about all kinds of other random things. I'm not sure she is all there, but that's ok.

Second, I have pooped blood twice. Told you this was real. Anyways, I assessed my symptoms on webmd  and I think I'm going to live. Nothing else hurts or anything, so we'll see what happens.

Third, I did not get into grad school in Amsteram. :( I am very sad about this. I was told it was because I did not have the proper prerequisites, which is 30 hours in research methodology and a strong base in the field of International Development. And I really don't want to dwell on it, but did it really take them 5 months to figure out that I didn't have that? Also, am I just completely stupid and or did I totally miss the section of the application that explained those stipulations as requirements? Oh well. It sucks, but everything happens for a reason. Or something. I  am ready for the next door to open. You know, cause this one closed? Moving on.

Fourth, I had to get bitchy today at work and it was not pretty. This crazy lady sent me FOUR emails about how she wanted her client moved to a host family closer to the school. I wrote her back and said we were working on it and then she called. From Prague. Lame. First off, I am not the one that places people nor can these kind of things be fixed in a day. Then she told me I would maybe understand if I had kids one day. Right ok, please shut up and get a life because it was like 9:00pm in Prague when she called me.

Lastly, I need new music and would love some suggestions. Please advise. Also, as lame as this day was, and as uncertain as my future is (with boys, life, work, etc), I was still on Ellen and it was amazing. Thank you and goodnight.

Help!

We (my roommate and I) set up the X-box and Beatles Rockband tonight!! It was kind of difficult, but we got it done and it's super awesome and fun! However, there is a cranky old bitch that lives underneath us and didn't let us play for very long without banging on her ceiling. Seriously, who does that? Also, we have a very small TV, so it's kind of difficult to really see what is going on, but it is still super fun. And in honor, I made the title a Beatles song. And maybe I'll have a Beatles theme for a bit...we'll see.

Also, I need help. There is this cute guy that rides my bus every afternoon and I need to figure out the best way to approach him. Or if I even should. I am soooo terrible when it comes to talking to boys and there are a MILLION ways things could get awkward, especially on the bus. But, there are also a lot of ways it could be off to a good start since there are always crazy people to talk about on the bus. I just don't know what to do with myself but I think we should at least be friends because he lives close, dresses nicely and seems normal. And he is obviously awesome since he rides the bus because that is what awesome people do, ride busses. Duh. Ok, so if you have any suggestions, let me know. I am just hesitant because I don't want to come on too strong (as is often the case) but I also don't want to do nothing because nothing gets done when you do nothing. I know, so profound. But on the other hand, I always get nervous because I kind of assume all guys have girlfriends and do not want other random girls talking to them. Would it be too much if I asked him if he watches Ellen and tell him my awesome story? Or maybe I could ask if he likes Beatles Rockband and tell him I need a guitar player. Or what if I was just like, yes. Yes, you have seen me on TV, you can stop trying to place me. I am totally famous. OR-what if I was like, sooo, not having a car sucks, huh? So many conversations I could start! What to do!?

Anyways, my housewarming party is tomorrow night! I'm excited and am making cupcakes! Pictures coming soon. Now it's time for bed with my new Ellen eyemask. Night night.

Dream big people!!!!
Me and my lucky headband, going to see Ellen!

07 May 2010

That just happened

OH MY GOSH PEOPLE!!!

I still cannot believe it! I really can't. I am a total dork and have watched the video like, 20 times. I showed it to all the students at school and have posted it on facebook at least three times already. I am just so damn happy about the whole thing. This is going to carry me for a loooonnnggg time. I can't get over how PERFECT everything worked out! And silly me, I was all upset last time I went and only got in the Riff Raff room! Maybe everything does work out for a reasons and the reasons just show up way later sometimes. Hm. Gosh, life is GOOD!

So I went to American Idol! It was totally fun!! Just a bit of bad news...Lady Gaga was not actually there. It was a pre-recorded video. It's ok, it was still really fun and maybe for the best because I had never even heard the song she sang! Oops! I never listen to the radio though! I don't even have a radio! And no car, so how would I have heard it? Whatever, I know it now. I also know the Idol contestants now and can't decide who I want to win. Lee is cute, but he is way down on himself and that's not cool.

Anyways, the whole experience was just so fantastic. We got VIP tickets AND parking and I felt like a total rock star. Which I pretty much am, so that works out well. I have been telling pretty much everyone I encounter to watch me on Ellen, so you're welcome Ellen for pulling in new viewers. You can thank me by giving me a job! Oh yeah, about that...everyone keeps asking me why I didn't ask her for a job while I was right there next to her. A few reasons. One, I was so far beyond excited, I was doing well to remember what my name was. Two, I don't think she would have wanted me to do that. In fact, I know she wouldn't as I was told not to do any self promoting. Three, I had to buckle down and concentrate on the game! That game was hard and I was getting nervous that I wasn't going to get any right and I was going to look foolish in front of Ellen! That would have been terrible! Obviously, I pulled it together and got shit done. Hooray X-box and Beatles Rockband!

I am also sorry if I upset anyone by not saying I was from South Carolina. I totally meant to, I swear! I just got so dang excited! I wasn't really nervous, just more excited that I have EVER been in my entire life! Also, I didn't know I was going to get picked, so I didn't do any preperation. Should I ever get invited back, I will let everyone know I represent the dirty south. Also, I didn't say I was from LA, I just said I live here now. So everyone CALM DOWN!

And the support I've gotten on facebook and from friends and family has been soooo amazing! Everyone has been so fantastic and it makes me feel so loved and happy! I love it! I love you! THANK YOU!!!!! Keep writing letters for me and maybe even BIGGER and BETTER things will happen! I am going to keep....

Dat's MEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On Ellen!!!! I hugged her!!! It was so fantastic! Seriously, one of the BEST days of my life! I don't think I have ever been happier!!!!

Oh man, I was soooo freakin pumped just to BE there and I really never dreamed that I would really, actually, truly get to play one of the games! Really! It was in the back of my mind, as a tiny little ray of hope and really wishful thinking but IT REALLY HAPPNENED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DREAMS REALLY DO COME TRUE :) :) :) :) Cheesiest line ever, I know! But it's FOR TRUE PEOPLE!

AHHHHHHHH!!!!

I am still having a hard time processing it. Like, that just happened. It really did. I got to go to the Ellen show, sit in the audience, dance my butt off, and then she called MY name and I got to run down, GIVE ELLEN A HUG, play a game and win awesome prizes! I know, on top of the hug (like it could get any better!), I now am the proud owner of an X Box and Beatles Rockband. CAN YOU FUCKING STAND IT??? I can't!

AND-now I'm off to American Idol and LADY FUCKING GAGA is performing!!!!!!!!! I LOVE L.A. right now. LOVE IT.

More later, after Idol!!!!!

Perspective

So I went to work today. And I was all grouchy because I haven't been sleeping well (ahem, blackout curtains) and it is still pretty chilly here. I continued to be grouchy because the bus was late, I started my period, my head was hurting, boys are apparently not the least bit interested in me, and work is boring. And then I randomly stumbled across this really amazing story. http://65redroses.livejournal.com/2010/04/27/

And then I cried a little bit and realized I need to get the fuck over myself. Because this girl was totally amazing and her story is awesome. Please go look at it if you get the chance. She didn't make it past 26, which is so sad because she seems like a really cool person. However, she touched a lot of lives with her story and her struggle with Cystic Fibrosis. I can't even imagine what kind of struggle that must have been and it makes me put my life into perspective.

I am a lucky, lucky girl. I don't know how I got so lucky, but I did and I am SO thankful. I realize I like to whine a lot, but I promise, I know what's up. I wish there was a way I could express my thanks. But for now, I'll just share with you how good it feels to be lucky and maybe you can remember what makes your life lucky too.

For starters, I do not have Cystic Fibrosis. So that's awesome. I am generally healthy, with some minor issues here and there. Right now my stomach is making all kinds of scary rumbling noises, but I am not hooked up to any tubes so I'm going to count it as a positive.

I've also got a job, a place to live, a kind of bed, clothes and food. In addition to the basic luxuries, I also get to do really really cool stuff sometimes. I've traveled awesome places and done really cool things. For instance, last night I went to see Chicago in Hollywood and it was totally amazing. Man, I really love musicals. Other than Pantages Theater and their policies being totally lame (seriously, I hate them) and the man in front of me with his enormous head, I loved it. Roxie was the girl from Destiny's Child (Michelle), so that was cool. I mean, it's what the program said anyways, I was a little to far away to confirm this. And the musical in general is just really fun and funny and well written and there was one song with all this sparkly stuff coming down from the ceiling and it was SO cool! Then I had to take the scary night bus home alone and that was NOT cool. Not terrible, but there was a crying Asian man, two drunk Latinos and one weird man taking pictures of the top of his head with his cell phone. Things were awkward.

Anyways, this post has been like, three days in the making and it really isn't getting any better. I really just wanted to share that website I found. So, enjoy, and I will shut up now. You're welcome. My mom is coming tomorrow! HOORAY! ELLEN ON TUESDAY! :) :) :)

Dream big people!

26 April 2010

There's an app for that

So my weekend was pretty lame. It was actually really lame. I am ok with it though. I did get some stuff done, I went on a walk and did somethings that were mildly entertaining.

Friday night I went to Happy Hour with the roomies, which was the first time we went out in public together and it was really quite lovely. The night ended a littler earlier than expected so I went to bed early. And if going to bed early during the week makes me self-conscious, going to bed early on a weekend really makes me nervous. But the next day I got up and to the Grilled Cheese Festival! And.....it was actually really disappointing. I thought there was going to be mountains of grilled cheese just waiting to be consumed by me (who paid $10 to get in). Really, I thought there were going to be cocktail waitress type people running around with platters of all sorts of grilled cheese samples to be eaten up and rivers of cheese and tomato soup flowing through the streets for people to bask in. Instead, there was one line you could stand in for little tiny samples of just regular grilled, another line where you could get tiny cups of tomato soup and yet an even longer line where you could get free fizzy fruit soda. And if you wanted anything else fancier, you had to wait in a ridiculously long line AND you had to pay for it! Plus, they only gave you half the sandwich! It was total crap. There was also a competition going on  but apparently you had to sign up ahead of time to be a judge and if you didn't, you got yelled at by an extremely loud and obnoxious woman and weren't allowed into the competition part, even if you just wanted to see what was going on. So yeah, it was disappointing. And expensive. FAIL.

After our sad times at the festival, a friend and I wandered around downtown LA, which also was a big fail since nothing was open and we just wanted something to drink and a little snack. Downtown LA is probably the stupidest downtown I've ever been in. Maybe I was in the wrong part, but there wasn't really anything interesting going on and it was Saturday. Whatever. After extensive wandering we ended up at a hotel with a rooftop bar and it was a cool scene, nice view, it was just freezing with the wind and there were lots of drunk tourists. But it was still alright and we enjoyed ourselves.

The rest of the weekend I literally did nothing. I did some wandering around the neighborhood and that is about as productive as I got. I had all these plans for grocery shopping and room redecorating, but I just couldn't get it together. I did, however, update my ipod touch and got some awesome new apps. The best one, by far, is this top 100 song thing. I thought it was going to just tell you the top 100 songs from each decade, but it's actually a million times cooler than that and PLAYS the songs for you! It's amazing and I love it.  I am seriously considering getting an iphone just so I can carry this little rectangular amazement around with me all the time. The touch is only good if you are connected to wireless internet, so it doesn't work for wandering around town. Also, it would be amazing for directions since I never have any idea where I'm going.

But, really, I don't have the money for that. So if anyone wants to buy me one, go for it. I will appreciate the hell out of it. And you. I have other things I need to spend my money on right now. I'll tell you what they are, in case you want to buy something else for me: a bed, computer (one of the small ones, they're pretty cheap!), a car, some new clothes (I am so not cool enough for LA), black shoes (I have none! How did this happen?), and a nightstand. Holla if you need my address to ship something my way. I will also take gift cards, thank you so much.

Ok, my weekend wasn't interesting and neither was this post. And yet, somehow, it is extremely long. Sorry. Things are going to be good next weekend though because my MOM is coming! YAY!!!! And then next week we are going to ELLEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DOUBLE TRIPLE A MILLION YAY!!!! I can't wait! And then it's Cinco de Mayo! Hooray! An excuse to drink during the week!

Things I Would Like to Know

I have questions today. Here they are:

1. Does edamame go bad? If yes, when does this happen? Will I die from eating rotten edamame?

2. Is it bad to crack your back?

3. Are there repercussions to eating an avocado before it's ripe?

4. Does anyone else think these things when watching Glee?:
          a. Man, I'm sad because I'll never be in a high school show choir.
          b. I wish Rachel would stop looking so concerned and upset all the time.
          c. I wish Finn would stop looking so confused all the time.
          d. Brittany is the funniest character on the entire show.
          e. Do they ever go to class? Do they do homework? Where are their parents?

5. Seriously, why is it cold in LA? I'm getting angry.

6. Does anyone really buy tampons based on their commercials?

7. Do those really annoying people on the street that ask if you have a second to end world hunger make a lot of money? Are they proud of what they do? Does it really only take a second to end world hunger, child poverty or legalize gay marriage? When people ask them at parties, "What do you do?," do they tell the truth? Then does the person that asked walk away disgusted?

8. Why does everyone hate on Ke$ha? Yes, she looked like a tard on SNL and yes putting a $ in your name is totally douchey, but her music is so great for dancing! Haters.

Ok, well I think that is it for now. Let me know if you have some answers for me.

Is this real life?

Please go to YouTube and type in David after dentist, if you feel like laughing today. Apparently I can't share it with you on here because you have to pay for it...or something. I didn't really try that hard.

Anyways, that little David is pretty funny. And to transition, this week has not been funny. This week has, so far, been stupid. I find myself asking, "is this real life?" because it really has just been ridiculous.

First off, it is RAINING and COLD again here in freaking LA. WTF people? "Oh, LA is the best, we have the best weather, it never rains, there is sun 340 days a year, blah blah blah." LIARS! Anyone that has ever said anything along those lines is totally full of crap because it has rained A LOT since I got here and frankly, I'm sick of it. Also, I came here because it is not supposed to be cold and here it is all chilly again and I ALREADY TOOK HOME MY JACKETS. I have nothing to wear and I'm cold dammit! And I refuse to buy another one, so don't even suggest it. So here's some advice: Don't move to LA if you are looking to escape the rain.

Second, the internet went out at work today. Yes, I know this happens but the whole thing was ridiculous. Mainly because only the internet on my computer went out and of course, that is the computer with all the files, emails, etc on it. Basically everything I need to do my work is on there and I can't do much without it. So after a good 2 hour convo with Verizon, nothing was fixed and I had to go around my ass to get to my elbow to get anything done. And I managed to stay cool but I was crazy grouchy inside. This is also because my bus was late and I didn't sleep well again because my "black out" curtains are totally full of shit and don't black out 99% of light, as promised. Why is everyone lying to me???? Is it going to be like this forever?? JEEZ--I hope not.

And lastly, I am going to share something with yall even though I am all kinds of embarrassed about the whole thing. But I also don't like sitting at home and enjoy free dinners. Furthermore, I'm pretty sure all of 2 people read this, so whatever. Anyways, at the suggestion of a friend, I signed up for an online dating site. And seriously, it's killing my self esteem. Someone told me I was chubby, everyone is totally weird, some guys seriously don't know how to have a conversation and OF COURSE the guys that I think are semi-cute and normal that have started up "conversations" don't answer me back. I get a lot of messages with bad grammar and no punctuation and I CAN'T TAKE IT. It's horrible. I said I would give it a week but I think I might have to tap out early. Grouchy-rainy-week is not a good week to add online rejection to things. UGGGHHH.

Sorry for all the caps, friends. It's my way of showing emotion via the limited font styles of the blogger.

I hope everyone else is having a far less stupid week. I, for one, am looking forward to the weekend. Mainly because it's GRILLED CHEESE FESTIVAL WEEKEND! Wooo hoooo! Those caps were caps of joy. Also, after that fantastic weekend, My MOM is coming to visit! More joyous caps! I can hardly stand it! Also, I just got Rick Rolled on Pandora, so things are looking up already.

Too Soon?

Does anyone else ask themselves this question: How soon is too soon to go to bed?

No, no one else? I'm not surprised.

For some reason, I have this hang up about going to bed too early. I'm afraid someone is going to think I'm a loser or something. Not that anyone is even keeping tabs on when I go to bed. Whatever, I'm totally weird. But you all already knew that.

Also, I may or may not be a little tipsy right now. I'll let you decide. But, in the event that I am, it is totally legit. I had the stupidest day EVER and it was really quite frustrating and worthy of a drink...or three. And a free burrito. Among other things, someone told me I was chubby, I got really frustrated at work and had some bus drama that involved sitting next to a SUPER smelly and large man. And I was really ready to punch someone in the face. Seriously, I got off the bus and this dog was all up in my way on the sidewalk and was jumping all over the place like a doofus and I was all, don't mess with me dog! And then it started barking and was scary, so I just crossed the street really quickly. But that dog knew what was up.

Anyways, here I am a few drinks and a free burrito later, and life is a lot better. I still don't have a bed, but I got a sweet ass table from Ikea and some fake flowers, and my room is looking a lot better. I have also decided that I'm NOT chubby and even if I was, I'd be ok with it. And the person that told me that was ugly, so whatever. Like I always say, I may be fat, but you're ugly and I can lose weight, but you are out of luck.

Just kidding, I don't always say that. I think my dad said it once, though, and I agree.

So now it's almost 8:15. I think another hour and a half will be an appropriate bed time. I can't wait.

Facebook for Dummies

This was, quite possibly, the longest work day of my life. Which I find interesting because I actually had legitimate work to do almost all day. This is rare, usually I finish up around 10 and find random things to occupy myself with the rest of the day. But today, I was productive and I looked at the clock and it was only 1:30!!! And then the rest of the day drraagggeeeddd by and here I am, what seems like 3 days later.

Anyways, time for part three of the advice series! Hooray! I figure I'll go with that since I don't have anything else to write about. Other than the odd little things that I keep finding out about the apartment. Like, we only have one bowl. And no microwave. Sad times, because I really love me some microwave popcorn. And who only has one bowl? Me, apparently.

Well, anywho, this advice is going to be about facebook. I once was in a group about the rules of facebook but it seems to have disbanded. Plus that was back in the days when facebook was simple and not totally wackadoo. It's kind of out of control now and slightly obtrusive.

I really could go on forever but here are big things:

1. Don't comment on people's statuses if you are saying something that has nothing to do with the status. That is what the wall is for, saying whatever random thing you want.

2. Facebook is kind of a lame place to get on a soapbox, in my opinion. That's what blogs are for!

3. Twitter is for updating your life status every few minutes, not facebook.

4. If your wall is all about your Farmville and what you've recently acquired in it, you are a loser. Sorry. But you are.

5. Don't join dumb groups or be a fan of stupid things.

Annnd, that is all I have for now. Oh, and don't be a friend-whore. I seriously know all of the people I am friends with. I may not chat with them on a regular basis or be total BFFS with them, but I have met them all. And would call them a friend.

Anywho, I've got some good weekends ahead of me, I'm pretty excited. Next weekend is the Grilled Cheese Festival! Stay tuned!

A Sandwich

Ok! Here's whats up: I read something that I want to share, but it's super negative. So I am making a negative sandwich today, with positive bread. Get excited.

Good news: This is my 200th post! Wooo, how exciting! And, to celebrate, Pandora played "Heaven is a Place on Earth" for me!!!!!! Best Pandora day EVER!!!! Ahhhh, I LOVE IT! Thank you, Pandora, for rocking my face off at work. I wish I could thumbs up it a million times! I also wish someone could have been around to witness my reaction when it came on. I had to laugh at myself. So yay, 200 posts! Surely that is some sort of record.

Holy crap. I'm depressed. I just wrote this whole long thing about these crazy people and this article and blogger went deleted it ALL. Seriously, blogger? SERIOUSLY. I feel dead inside. The paragraphs were so good. And it was part two of my advice series! I'll still tell you the advice: Don't protest at funerals.

Sigh.

I don't have the heart to do it all over again. But I'll sum up. And maybe come back to it later. Those people, that protest at funerals, make me so sad. I was literally tearing up reading about them because it astounds me that someone has enough hate in them to go around making the most difficult day of someone's life even more difficult. Unbelievable. But, it makes me happy for groups like this that are around to attempt to make things right. Jeez, so much to say but I can't do it right now.

And I'm can't even finish my sandwich properly because the link I wanted to post keeps messing up and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. I'm still so sad everything I wrote got erased! I saved it and EVERYTHING. WHERE DID IT GOOOOO?????

Sigh again.

Dream big people.

14 April 2010

Hoo Hoo

First off, let's talk about how amazing it is to ride the bus for 10 minutes to work. It is AMAZING. So fantastic, I could go on forever. Of course, today I get to work on time and guess who forgot her keys, so I ended up standing around for 20 minutes anyways. But whatever, standing around is better than sitting on the bus. I wake up almost a full hour later than before. Glorious.

Anyways, the point of this post is to start a new series* in which I give people advice. Because I'm a wise owl. Hoo hoo, get it? I was inspired by a friend :) Obviously, my life is so put together and lucrative, I am the perfect person to go around telling people how to live. Let's recap, shall we? I have no car, no boyfriend, a low paying job, I need to lose some weight, I am currently sporting a bad haircut and have a twin size futon for a bed. Also, I just gave my address to a grocery store over the phone. Damn. What was I thinking?? On the other hand, I'm happy, healthy, awesome and have been cool places, so maybe I'm not doing so bad after all. Either way, we all know I like to talk and think I know best, so listen up if you too want to be happy, healthy, well-traveled, awesome, broke and single!

Hm. So I guess I'll start with traveling:

1. Don't always book the cheapest flight. Double check and come to terms with multiple layovers, early flight departures, excessively long layovers and ridiculous hours before you decide that saving a few bucks is the priority. Also keep in mind that you'll be paying for checked bags and that sucks.
2. Invest in a neck pillow. It makes life so much better, for serious.
3. Take an empty water bottle with you and fill it up at the airport water fountain after security. Take that TSA and high water prices!
4. Always go to the bathroom when you have the chance. This goes for any type of travel, especially car trips. Waiting for the next rest area is not always the smart thing to do and your bladder may hate you for a while if you wait too long.
5. Always eat when you have the chance. Don't wait until you're ravenous and your options are limited. Take snacks wherever you go. Buying at the airport/on the train is way more expensive than bring them with you from the grocery store.
6. Have a spare set of essentials in your carry-on. You never know when and where you'll be stranded.
7. Always take a jacket or sweater. Being cold sucks.
8. Make sure you are thourough with directions. I have learned my lesson (multiple times) that writing down vague directions doesn't do me any good when I get lost. Especially since I am sans GPS, sans iphone, and sans any type of directional aptitude.
9. Crying doesn't really get you anywhere. I know, sometimes it's unavoidable, but it really doesn't help anythings. And it makes it hard to breathe.
10. Take good music and a good book to help pass the time. Unless you're driving, then only have the music. Don't read and drive. It's dangerous.

Well, that's all I got for now. And go to this website: so funny. Also, if you're feeling sad, YouTube old Ellen stand up and you will feel better. And you can thank me later.

Until we meet again, the best advice:

Dream big people!

*It may not actually be a series, as I will probably run out of advice pretty quickly. Stay tuned.

Changes in Latitude

I moved! And now I am sitting in my new room, in my new apartment, on my newly acquired "chair," which is actually part of a sofa that I am just sitting on, pretending it's a chair. Anyways, I am really excited about the move and think good things will come. I am just impatient because I want to have everything set up and put away RIGHT NOW, but I can't. I am still waiting on some boxes I had shipped (thanks Dad!) and need to do some furniture hunting before everything is complete. But, Blakely was nice enough to loan me a bed and a dresser, so I've at least got the essentials. She also helped me move and I will be forever grateful. Sometimes I really wonder what I did to get such wonderful people in my life. I'm really lucky.

Anyways, the new apartment is SO much closer to work, I'm very excited! The bus ride is like, 10 minutes instead of an HOUR and 10 minutes. Hooray! The only thing I really worry about is living with boys (I've done it before, but they can be difficult) and being lonely. Sometimes I get sad when I don't have things to do and people to be around so I need to make some friends around here asap. Also, there is very little storage space in the bathroom and it's annoying. I think I'll live though.

And in other news, my cold is almost gone! I can breathe and that makes me happy. I also want April to be over right now so I will know about Amsterdam and can start making some new life plans. I do like LA, but don't think I want to settle down here for good. Especially since I don't have a car, I cannot tell you how much not having a car sucks. It sucks a lot, times 1000. And then some. Oh yes, and as new pictures of Katrina's wedding have been surfacing, I am getting a little depressed no one told me I looked like a huge fat cow. My arms really, jeez. And my little tiny head just makes things worse. I'm upset the photographer had me turned sideways for EVERY SINGLE PHOTO. It's really quite unflattering. Sad. Good thing it's not about me, it's about beautiful Katrina and Paul. I'll have to keep that in mind.

Ok, well I'm going to work some more on getting my room in order. Which at this point really just means moving things from one space to another. I like keeping busy. Until next time...

....dream big people!

09 April 2010

I love the sun when it shines...

Man!

A lot has happened since my last post. Lots of good stuff. First off, KATRINA GOT MARRIED. That's right people, married. As in, Paul liked it and he put a ring on it. Am I a bad friend because I still haven't figured out how to process this reality? I don't know, I haven't decided yet. I haven't figured out how to process a lot of information lately. I think my brain fell out on the layover in Houston. More on that later.

Inability to process aside, The wedding weekend was SUPER fun. It was so great to see my wonderful friends, the entire thing was just really nice overall, the weather was fantastic and I got tons of free food. And cake! Lots of cake. So yummy. I have hot friends. This is not up for discussion, this is a fact and we all looked hot and I was just really impressed with everyone. Additionally, we are smart, fun to be around and know how to work a dance floor. I really just can't say enough good things about the whole weekend, I had such a great time. I was a little skeptical about the silver dresses and pointy shoes combo, but I actually think everything turned out looking really nice. Like I said, we are all hotties, so we were able to pull it off pretty well. Katrina looked beautiful beyond words. Seriously. I could barely even see her (I was behind an extra large groomesman) and I was tearing up the whole time. I am dying for the photographer to put up the pictures. But really, you had to be there. I also found out I have lots of awesome friends that have written letters to Ellen and I LOVE THEM! And now Katrina is married. And that is crazy.

Wow, I am in such a fog right now. I have so many things to say about this wedding and my brain is not functioning properly. Maybe it was the overdose on Chic-Fil-A (4 times in 5 days), or maybe it was because I got punched in the face by pollen while in Charleston. Seriously, the pollen situation there is OUT OF CONTROL. It was everywhere and it knocked me out. I felt like my head was in a cloud the whole time. And then I got on the plane back to Cali and I felt like everything was sucked out, including my brain. But, I did enjoy my flights home. Continental Airlines pleasantly suprised me with a little snack basket. Definintely one-upped the standard preztel bag you normally get. Anyways, now I'm back in LA and things have not gotten better. My brain is not functioning, it hurts when I sneeze and I am beyond exhausted. This morning I got on the wrong bus! I was more embarassed than annoyed because the bus driver was like, what are you doing?? You missed the last stop!!! Oops. Come back to me brain! I need you!

Anyways, I should probably wait until I can think properly before I continue. I need a nap and I need to pack because I am moving to my new apartment THIS weekend! Uggh, horrible timing. I know I'm excited, but am too tired to actually feel excited. If that makes any sense. I'll get back to yall.

Dream big! (That is my plan, for my nap today)

PS-Happy Belated Birthday Kelley! I love you :)

Heaven is a Place on Earth

Um, duh. That is my favorite song and since I promised my 9 levels of heaven today, it was obvi the post title of choice. Yes, I know I talk about it a lot and it may be a little overdone, but I don't care and today it's actually relevant.

So anyways, I am flying out of LA TONIGHT!!!! I am so excited, I am flying back east to watch my best friend get married and I really just can't even stand it. But I haven't left yet and I have some free time, so I'll do my list as promised. I just know all you people are dying to hear what I have to say. So calm down, here goes.

1. The Dance Floor. Oh jeez, I just love dancing so much. And it doesn't even have to be on a real dance floor...any ole space will do. In college, my friend and I would have dance parties before we went to class on the carpet in our room and it was fantastic. We weren't allowed to dance off the edges of the carpet. Man, we were idiots, but it still makes me smile.

2. The Airport. 90% of the time. Ahh, what??? I know! But I love it. I love traveling and being an airport means I am going somewhere (or coming back from somewhere, which can be good too). It also means some good people watching and me feeling like a grown up. I also love airplane food, which is so weird, but I love how it all comes in it's own little package. So special.

3. On a Boat. (please clink on that link, so so funny...even if it is the edited version). Nothing better than boating on a nice day. I need more friends with boats. Let me know if you have one, we'll go out. It'll be fun.

4. My Bed. I love sleeping and I love being in my bed. Right now my bed is in a little nook and it's super cozy and I don't like getting out of it at 6:00 in the morning.

5. Driving and Having Your Favorite Song On. Makes it even better when it's nice out and you can have your windows down. Man, I miss having a car!

6. The Beach. Love it, love it, love it. Any beach, anytime.

7. Eating Home Cooked Meals You Didn't Have to Cook. I love eating, but hate cooking. So I really love when people cook something tasty for me. I've actually been cooking more lately, and it's all turned out pretty well...but I still like when someone else does it.

8. Being in a Hammock and/or Porch Swing. Don't really know how I could elaborate on this....

9. Being with Friends. Cheesy, I know. But it's the best. I love laughing and I always have a good time with my friends. It's a win-win.

Um, so this wasn't all that entertaining. Sorry. I feel like I have done something similar to this before. Also, complaining is more my speciality, ya know? Don't get me wrong, I'm a happy person and I am loving life right now, but I find it easier to make comments on stupid things. Things that make you happy can veer easily into cheeseball-ness and I try to stay away from that. But anyways, that's how it is and I'll try to make it better my list more exciting if I can think of a way. Oh yeah, I just found out about a Grilled Cheese Festival in LA that I plan on attending. That could possibly make the list. I'll let you know. For now, I've got a wedding to be in! Later dudes!

Dream big!

Dante's Inferno

So. A new friend told me about this hilarious thing she found on the internet: The 9 Real-Life Levels of Hell. It's pretty hilarious. And for the most part, it's true. Even though I personally can't relate to some of them. Jiffy Lube waiting room, for instance...I don't remember the last time I have been in one. Nor have I ever been in the emergency room at 1:00 am and I don't really spend all that much time in Kinkos. Also, Florida is awesome, I don't know what those fuckers are talking about. I was born there, so obviously, fantastic things come out of Florida. Seriously, all the things they listed are in other states. Even the Cubans...there was some protest here the other day that had to do with Cuban politics. I'm just sayin. Anyways, I also don't really have a lot of one year friends who's birthday parties I have to attend. They are pretty stupid, but I don't know that I would put it on my list of hellish places. Oh, what's that? You would like to hear my list of hellish places? Well, ok! I'll see how many I can come up with....

1. I have to agree on the Open Mic Night. Really anytime anyone busts out a guitar makes me cringe a little. I don't know what it is, but I just don't really like sitting around listening to one person play guitar and sing acoustic versions of cheesy songs. Which is weird because I freaking love music, even acoustic guitar music, but I don't like solo jam sessions. I think because it's usually a bunch of girls watching one guy play and it's just uncomfortable. Throw another guy in there and we might be ok. However, if it's at the beach or around a campfire, get me out of there! I think it's just too cliche or something for me. Or who knows really, I'm a weirdo. Whatever.

2. Dry Weddings. Sorry, but weddings are already hard enough to sit through as a slightly bitter single woman, and I definitely don't want to get to the reception and find out there is no booze involved. Do I sound like an alcoholic? I don't care, I want to get drunk for free so it's less painful to watch newly married couples slow dance!

3. Public Transportation. Now, the bus and metro are not always bad. In fact, they are just fine about 85% of the time. But it's that other 15% that is just painfully unbearable. Like today, for example, when this huge group of punk ass teenagers got on, caused a bunch of problems running their mouths and then refused to get off the bus when the bus driver told them to get off. So then we sat still for 15 minutes until they got off and then decided to stage a sit-in in front of the bus so we couldn't move without running them over (which I was all for). So we sat for another 10 minutes and then they screamed at the bus driver for a while and then we finally left. Definitely on the hellish side. There are few things more obnoxious than rude ass teenagers. Especially ones with that horrible teenager voice. You know what I'm talking about.

4. Being Stuck in a Room Watching Really Bad Television. And for me, this covers a lot of shows. In general, I am not a big fan of TV. Reality TV is the WORST. I seriously cannot STAND watching most of it. I especially hate the ones with all the drama and glorification of totally ridiculous people that no one should give two shits about, much less should have cameras following around their ridiculous selves. And I REALLY hate listening to people argue and that seems to happen a lot on reality TV shows involving families, contests and housemates. And sometimes I'm in other people's homes and they are watching this mess and it would be totally rude and socially unacceptable of me to leave based on their horrible taste in TV. That's when I fake a stomach ache and go to the bathroom for 30 minutes or until it's all over.

5. Crowded Grocery Stores. I am not a huge fan of crowds in the first place, but when it becomes an obstacle course just to pick up some groceries without running anyone over with my cart, things turn hellish. And in LA, that is pretty much always the case. For real, every time I have gone to the grocery store, there are a bazillion other people there and half of them are in line. And half of those are in the express line, under 15 items with at least 35 items in their cart. I saw a woman last week buying probably 50 bottles of coke. WHAT WAS SHE DOING WITH ALL THAT COKE????? Oh, and as a subtopic for number five, being behind someone paying with a check in the grocery store/pharmacy.

6. Dive Bars. They are always crowded (we know how I feel about those), occasionally have a one man acoustic guitar show going on with no dancing involved (vomit), it takes 10 years to get a crazy overpriced drink, and they usually smell funny and are full of stupid hipsters in skinny jeans. No thank you. And if there is karoke going on, please someone shoot me. I can't stand watching people make fools of themselves. And people always manage to pick the WORST songs! Singing Bohemien Rhaspody by yourself, karoke style, is just sad.

7. Anywhere Cold. But especially cold places in the morning. Like the bathroom. Hate it.

8. Being in an Awkward Conversations with People that Don't Agree With You. Obviously, I am smarter and more right than about 95% of the population, so this happens a lot. And it sucks. I just hate when I'm all, uggh, don't you just hate those pro-life crazies that throw eggs at people going into Planned Parenthood and then the person pulls a plastic fetus out of their pocket and says, this could have been a friend...until it was aborted. And then throws an egg in your face. So uncomfortable.

9. Movie Theaters/Libraries/Operas/Airplanes/Anywhere You're Supposed to be Relatively Quiet, with Loud People. Especially when it's the person you came with. I just want to yell, I'M RIGHT HERE-I CAN HEAR YOU. But that would make me just as bad.

Well what do you know, I was able to come up with 9. I'm sure I could come up with more if I tried a little harder. But I don't want to because I would rather go to bed. Also, if you read this and are offended, sorry, but these are my levels of hell and if you're made, write your own and include reading my blog in them. I dare you.

Tomorrow, I'll have my 9 levels of heaven, just so everyone doesn't think I'm a crazy bitch.

Totally Awesome Weekend

Oh man, what a GOOD weekend! Sorry I have been so slack with the posting, but the days are just flying by! I was pretty busy this past week, big things have been going on! Here's a recap:

1. I went [indoor] skydiving! It was pretty cool! My friend got two tickets for FREE so we went and it was pretty amazing. Amazing that it was free because usually it's pretty pricey and amazing because you are pretty much just floating around in a wind tunnel. In my opinion, it wasn't really anything like real skydiving, but the woman that worked there said it's more like when you skydive by yourself. Not tandem skydiving, which is what I did before. Either way, it was super fun and a delightful treat. We got to ride around in luxury vans, got free food (and stale Diet Coke), and got the DVD with our "flight." So if you would ever like to see me in flight, just ask and we can have a viewing. It's really very exciting, I promise.

2. I went to the TOTALLY AWESOME 80s Gala on Saturday. And it really was, TOTALLY AWESOME. Mainly because Blakely and I had the most amazing outfits EVER (see facebook for details) and we were rocking out hardcore in the 80s working woman jumpsuit. It was glorious. We found them at the Salvation Army down the street and mine fit so perfectly, it was almost scary. It was like it was made just for me. Oh man, what if it had been made the year, or even day, I was born back in the 80s! That would be some crazyness. Anyways, the actual event was not too terribly exciting, but we met some nice people, got to groove to some 80s jams (my fave!), and now we get a FREE ticket to Disneyland!!! Exciting!!!! I love me some free stuff. I mean, I am all for volunteering and I am a big fan of helping others...and if I can get some free stuff in the process, I'll take it! So thanks Disney! I can't wait to go! I've heard good things. We also got free food and I took home two BA 80s posters for my new room. Which brings me to my next point...

3. I found an apartment! And it ended up working out really well because it is waaayyyy closer to where I work. I can literally walk to work faster than it takes me to get there on the bus now. And I think I'm going to get a bike, which will make things even faster and better! Also, there are regular grocery stores nearby that have cashiers that know English and the dairy section offers more than one type of cheese. So that's pretty exciting. The only minor problem is that it doesn't come furnished at all, but I'm hoping I can find some Goodwill deals and get my new room looking spiffy. And the best part is I get to have a housewarming party! Fun times.

Well it is time for bed. Big week ahead, flying to Florida on Wednesday! I have some fantastic friends and I am really pumped about seeing them!

Dream big people! [And write your Ellen letter!]

Real Quick

Oh me, oh my. So much going on, so little time. But it's late and I need to watch my Ellen app, so I'll try to keep this brief.

I went to San Diego this weekend! It was really fun and is totally beautiful. And waaaaay cleaner than LA. The train ride down was quite lovely, a lot of it goes along the PCH so you get a nice beach view for a lot of it. Until you get back to LA, of course, and then you mainly see buildings, trash and cars. And people love trains! I saw so many people standing beside the tracks waving, it was fantastic! We even had some surfers waving from the water, I loved it! I hung out at the park and watched a crazy litte kids dance show...a friend's friend was the teacher, random, I know. Then we just hung out, enjoyed the lovely weather and had some beverages. And then the train ride back to dirty LA was just as lovely. And it was even better because of the totally verbose and crazy conductor, who was saying the most ridiculous things over the intercom. When we got back to LA he went on this whole thing about how you could take a break on the platform, stretch, have a smoke, stand on your head, run in circles, but when it comes time to get back on you better get on before the train disappears off into the horizon. Because you don't want to watching the train disappear off into the horizon, trying to run and jump on the train in vain. Really, he said all this. And more. Also, when we got to San Diego, he told everyone to watch out for trolleys because it would be "a shame to have gotten you here safely on the train only to have you collide with a trolley upon your arrival." Really.

Today was my morning bus driver's birthday, so the entire bus sang him Happy Birthday. How special is that? I know, so special. I don't know who found out or who started it, but once I realized once was going on, I could not stop smiling. I really just thought it was so cute and funny. LA surprises me like that every now and then. I was like, oh, it's not all crazy people, there are some nice ones too! But then I was reminded that there are more crazy people than nice ones when this man FREAKED OUT on the sidewalk outside my building. I could hear him screaming from the third floor! It was intense and I was a little afraid, even from inside, three stories up. From what I gathered from his rant was that someone bumped into him and things escalated from there. And ended with, "You better hope I don't run into in the dark sometime, where there are no witnesses to see how I would fuck you up!" Then something else about how he doesn't take shit from bullies and it's called SELF DEFENSE SIR. He said that to a man on his cell phone standing near by. Oohhh my. So crazy.

Anyways, there is tons of other stuff going on, but my brain is too scattered to put it all in word form right now. This weekend is the TOTALLY AWESOME 80s Gala and I am pumped! And then next week, I'm flying to Jacksonville for Trine's wedding. CRAZY. I really think I'll see some pigs flying along beside us on the way there. If you know what I'm saying.

Ok, well more later when I can get figure out how to write out my thoughts better.

Dream big people!

Erin Go Bragh!

Well. It's been a rough few days, but I think I'm over the worst and now here I am.

I have learned some interesting things from the news today. I'll share.

1. There was a study done that proves that women are attracted to men in luxury cars. I didn't read the article, that was just headline and now I can't find it. I guess I was just SO SHOCKED by this news, that I couldn't function properly. Seriously people, WHO KNEW??? These are some crazy times we are living in. Women are attracted to men with money. Total insanity.

2. "Aim to drink in moderation, or not at all, experts say." That is the advice the experts that spoke with CNN have to offer in the way of what to do about hangovers. Well thank you so much experts, that is so very practical and helpful of you! I, along with the bazillion other drinkers in this world, will most definitely keep that in mind as we celebrate tonight, and every other weekend (or weekday).

I had to stop reading after that. Is that really news? Who gets to decide what is news and what isn't? Those two things are less like news and more like useless information everyone in the whole wide world already knew.

If you are bored with reading the news and would like something interesting to do, here's a suggestion. Go to Google maps and look up walking directions for really obscure destinations in the world. For example, while planning my fake trip to Thailand the other night, Blakely and I discovered it would take us six days six hours to walk from Bangkok to Phuket. Totally do-able if you're looking to save some money on transportation on your way to Phi Phi.

And while Orb*** was nice enough to finally answer my questions, I am still frustrated because they, along with the airline company, really can't help me because they all suck and aren't interested in helping people out. ALL I WANT TO DO IS CHANGE TO A LATER FLIGHT. Why is this so hard? Whatever. At least they answered me. And I got to talk to a REAL person when I called the airlines-crazy!

Lastly, the weather is FANTASTIC here right now. For real, it's currently 81. Come visit, we'll hang at the beach!

HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAY!!!!! I'll be having a drink (or 5) and cheersing to Pa tonight because this was his favorite holiday. So here's to Pa. Hope you are celebrating as well, we miss you!

Dream big people! Slainte!

PS-I won't really have 5 drinks. It's a school night crazy fools!

Dear Orbitz,

Let's see what happens.

Thank you.

15 March 2010

Whoopsie Daisy

So this was a weekend of some very poor decision making. I won't get into all the details, but things were said, actions were done and money (lots of money) was spent that shouldn't have been. But not all by choice. Damn. Well that is in the past I guess. Cosi e la vita!

There were some good parts, though. I went to the Spanish grocery store across the street by myself and it actually went pretty well! I was proud of myself. I got into some crazy exclusive Korean restaurant and it was interesting. Seriously, they almost didn't let us in because we were white, even though we had a Korean with us. There are some exclusive people out here. Don't let anyone trick you into thinking Los Angeles is a city of open arms. Does anyone even say this? I don't know. Either way, it's actually kind of the opposite and it can get a little depressing sometimes. I will say, though, that once we were in, most everyone was nice to us. The waitress even made sure we ordered white people friendly dishes. How thoughtful of her. And then they over-charged us by about $50, so that was lovely too.

Also, Orbitz sucks and I am very upset with them right now. I love flying, but booking flights is the biggest pain in my ass and, as always, I need to change things but can't and now have some whack flight that would cost some retarded amount of money that I don't have, to change. Grrrrr. Is it so much to ask that airlines make their business customer friendly? Apparently yes. And I'm thinking it's only going to get worse seeing as the demand for flying is always going to be there and businesses don't really give a crap about their customers, only about making money. I heard something the other day about an airline considering making people pay to use the bathroom on board. Totally unacceptable! Ok. Rant over.

Anyways, the weather was super fantastic this weekend and it's supposed to get even better this week and that makes me excited. And with daylight savings, that means I can enjoy the beach for a little bit after work and not have to get on the bus while it's dark. Hooray!

Also, if you haven't written your Ellen letter, get on it! I only have until May when I go back and she needs as many letters as soon as possible. I don't care if you think I'm crazy, at least drop a postcard in the mail! And if you have, THANK YOU! I love you and think you're awesome.

That's all I got, really. Sorry nothing exciting is going. Possible trip to San Diego next weekend. Potential for exciting things to happen! We'll see.

Dream BIG, people :)

Laugh. Dance. Hire Jacky.

So here goes. The first round of pleas for letters have gone out. MAJOR finger crossing going on. Mainly that I don't look like a total fool. I guess it's a little to late for that though. Anyways, here is what you can write, if you want:

"I have known Miss Jacky G for _________ years/months/days [have never actually met her, but have heard good things] and I truly feel she would make a great asset to the Ellen team, in any capacity. But most especially as an Ellen ambassador to the international community. Traveling is a true passion of Jacky's, as are laughing and dancing, which are pretty consistent with the priorities of Ellen. Jacky is a huge Ellen fan and would spread the message of Ellen with true heart. As an American/Italian/Armenian/other international person, I feel as though Jacky would represent both America and Ellen proudly, and would be welcome in my country/community of ________ to spread Ellen love. If anything, you could give Jeannie a raise and let Jacky have her old job. Jacky's current job does not showcase her potential as a catalyst in a world domination movement. Thank you for your time and consideration. I love watching your show and hope to see Jacky's smiling face on there one day. Y'all are both totally _________ and I know she would represent The Ellen Show in the best way possible. Laugh. Dance. Hire Jacky.

Love from _____(your country/community)___, sign your name. :)"

Email or facebook me for the address. I don't know if I should put it on here, I don't want to get in any kind of trouble. Also, if you know ANYONE that would participate, let me know and I will send them an email! I need lots of people from all around the world, so your help is much appreciated. Also, feel free to send a postcard, take a picture, or call up Ellen and tell her your thoughts. Whatever you want to do.

[Help me] Dream big people!

I'm loving it!

I need a new theme for titles....they have been struggling as of late.

Today was a FANTASTIC day! I know you are just dying to know why, so calm down, I'm going to tell you!

The bus ride to work was (relatively) normal and uneventful. There were some awkward teenagers sitting and standing all around me but, good things came out of it. The girl in the blue checked pants, bright green t-shirt and plaid over shirt made me really glad I am not a teenager anymore. Oh, and the braces. Man, braces were the worst!

Work was...actually, not that fantastic. We'll skip that. Even though I did get an email at work that made me laugh for like, 10 minutes. Out loud. I also got some emails that made me want to punch the computer. But I didn't. It would probably hurt. Oh, and I got to read all the hilarious Oscar commentary online and that made me laugh out loud some more. People are so funny.

As I was walking back from giving my tour for the new students, a gas station was blasting "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" by Hall & Oates and it made me smile. Mainly because Blakely and I had a Hall & Oates mini-fest the other night and we were dueting (is that a word?) that song all last week. Good times.

After work, I walked myself down the skreet and joined Curves! Yay me! And it was just lovely because the people were nice and the crazy "change stations now" person sounds the same as it does in good ole Mt. P. Made me feel right at home.

Then, I got back on the bus and rode home without anything majorly weird happening AND I got to see cute-guy-that-gets-off-at-my-stop guy. So special. BONUS-he was there in the morning too! I forgot. OH, and, I went into the grocery store on the way to Curves and after the grocery store guy showed me where something was, he told me I looked "so sexy" with my short haircut. I was embarassed/thrilled/awkward/extremely pleased with myself. And he was relatively normal looking too! Had all of his teeth and everything! If that doesn't get your afternoon started right, I don't know what will. BONUS-that is the second time I've gotten hit on in a grocery store. DOUBLE BONUS-I freaking love grocery shopping and things like that only make it better.

Oh, and the crazy lady in the building next door was really entertaining tonight. She was doing a little dance in her doorway and then her cat escaped and she ran after it and said, (verbatim) "Get back here-I'll fuck you up!" And it was both hysterical and disturbing. Then I stopped watching her because I didn't want her to see me and fuck me up as well. If I have learned anything in this life, it's to not mess with people that do drugs. When they say they will fuck you up, they sometimes mean it. And when they do mean it, they really will, in a big way. No thank you.

I also was reminded that I have super awesome friends (especially the ones that read my blog!) and I am getting really pumped about my letter writing campaign. I think it could be good. Fingers crossed.

And now I get to go to sleep in my cozy little bed!

Dream big!

PS-my Ellen countdown gave my blog a virus...so that shit had to go. But I think we are at 57 days right now. Get excited!

08 March 2010

So many people to thank...

Here's whats up: I am awesome at driving in LA. Seriously, I am pretty much a pro already and I've only driven like, three times. But I'm amazing. Does this really surprise anyone? Probably not because I'm awesome at pretty much everything. Except picking up boys. And telling jokes. And painting fingernails. And driving big trucks in parking garages. But other than that, total awesomeness. Now I just need a car. I'm trying to convince one of the Spanish boys at school to give me the one he is going to buy for his 3 month stay here. Come on now, the person is clearly loaded if he can come to the US, rent an apartment for three months, buy a car AND an iphone. And clearly, he can afford to be nice and leave the car for me, his loyal and helpful housing and admissions coordinator that gave him a kick ass tour of Santa Monica upon his arrival to the school. But, if that doesn't work out, I am going to figure out how to win a car. Or hotwire one. Whichever takes less time. I just love driving so much and I miss it! Damn you cars, for being so expensive!

So in other news, the Oscars were tonight! And that would be more exciting if I actually did something cool and LA and went to them or at least tried to go see the red carpet, but I didn't. I actually forgot they were even going on until someone texted me and asked if I was going. By that time it was too late and then I couldn't find anyone that wanted to go crash post parties with me. Everyone here is totally lame, obvi. I did watch part of them on TV and now I really want to win an Oscar and wear a pretty dress and give a cool speech. As ridiculous as I think celebrity and movie culture is, there are still some things I liked. (SPOLIER ALERT!) I love that Sandra Bullock won. She is really funny and I like her movies. I think it's great a woman won for best director even though I didn't see her movie and probably never will because it looks a little too intense for my taste. And if people love Gabby Sibawhatever, they will LOVE me. For reals. I am totally cool, just like her! We would be really good friends and she could introduce me to Oprah, who could then introduce me to Ellen. Ellen could be for me what Oprah is for her. How perfect does that sound? I thought so too. Ugh, I would be so GOOD at being famous, I just know it!! How do I make this happen? Also, I felt totally cultured because I had seen TWO of the foreign language movie nominees....not the one that won, but whatevs. How many have YOU seen? Exactly. That is also the number of regular best picture nominees I have seen. I was totally rooting for "Up." Such a cute movie!

That's it for me I guess. Kind of an uneventful weekend. I did get to wear my new shoes though! And they were every bit as fabulous as I had hoped! This is what I would like to say about the weekend, Oscar acceptance speech style:

I would like to thank Ikea for making such comfy bed and cozy sheets for me to spend nearly half the day in, both Saturday and Sunday. Thank you to Sephora for replacing the make-up I dropped on the floor and broke for no extra charge. A special thanks to Target for providing pretty much my entire wardobe, including my kick-ass new shoes that made me almost a normal height. Also, thank you Fatburger for being such good hangover food, Pandora for providing me with such great random musical selections and the awesome California weather for making driving around with sun roof open a viable and fantastic option today. Oh, what's that? Hurry up? I'm almost out of time? Ok, oh gosh, so many things left to thank! I guess I'd like to just dedicate this weekend everyone out there that knows what it's like to sleep in and then get up and do nothing productive. Oh, and the academy. Thanks for making all this a reality.

Dream big people.

Climbing

So here is how awesome I am right now: I am currently listening to "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus on Pandora radio. Damn, I'm so cool. I would skip it but I have used up all my skips for the moment. But I agree Miley, I goootttaa be strong and just keep pushing on. She's pretty wise for being a minor.

Anyways, the bus was SO horrible today. I wish cars weren't so dang expensive cause I would buy one, like, yesterday. I got on at a weird time again today (I never learn my lesson!) and a lot of the seats were soaking wet! It was disgusting. I think they had just been cleaned or something, but still..it was gross. So I sit in a dry seat next to a wet seat but it was awkward because the wet seat was the window, so I looked like a jerk not scooting over for people. And it got super crowded so every time people got on, they were all, why is no one sitting there? And I had to keep being like, the seat is wet! Sorry! And some people didn't want to believe me for whatever reason, so I would have to get halfway up and let them see for themselves. It was not pleasant. And on top of that, these horribly stinky, nasty, very high and very obnoxious people got on and were grossing me out the whole time. They smelled so bad and were being so annoying. There was a girl who had three huge pieces of luggage that kept hitting people in the face and her friend, this huge nasty boy was all over the back of my seat and I was not pleased. I was very happy to get off that mess. And the worst part was I missed the bus before it by a block, so it all could have been avoided if I had left just a few minutes earlier. Damn.

Anyways, my computer is broke as a joke and it's depressing. To cheer me up, I bought these super fabulous shoes from Target and I am really pumped about wearing them out. Haha, it's funny because they ARE pumps! Good one, I know.

OH! And today I signed up for the Disney Volunteer day-so excited! I wanted to do Habitat for Humanity but I found the MOST PERFECT thing instead. It's to be a volunteer to an TOTALLY AWESOME 80s GALA. AHHHH!!! Can you even stand it! I think it will be TOTALLY AWESOME...I'm excited!

I think I'll stop now. I'm watching my Ellen app and I can't do two things at once. Plus I'm getting crazy jealous and need to think of hidden talent ASAP. Or get on that letter writing. PS-fitting in a suitcase is not a talent. But it's really funny to watch Ellen drag you around. Holy crap, now a woman is juggling a table with her feet! I can never top that. Sigh.

Dream big people! And write a letter for me!

02 March 2010

Have a little fun today!

I had A LOT of fun today because I went to the ELLEN SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And it was fantastic. I'm going to be honest with y'all though, I was a little upset. We didn't get into the actual audience because we got there too late (and some of you probably weren't crossing your fingers hard enough..jk) and the Riff Raff room was a little disappointing. I was literally crossing my fingers the entire time we were in line (I probably looked like such an idiot) but it just wasn't in the cards for me today. Don't get me wrong, I had a great time and loved it a lot, but Riff Raffers don't get no love! No shout out or a peek inside or anything! Well that's not true I guess because we got a shirt. But some of the other Raffers were SO LAME! Some sat the entire time and someo of them weren't even smiling! I couldn't stop smiling! There was one lady, though, who was both fabulous and very strange. She was busting some moves pretty hard. Others weren't really though....a lot of people just sat there. And the worst part was they had these big screens up where you could watch the show and they showed the "real" audience dancing before it started and some people were being soooooooo LAME. Seriously, some people were just standing there, not dancing at all! I wanted to ask the staff if they could go pull the lame-os and replace them with awesome people (ie: Blakely and I) who would appreciate the experience better. However, I didn't ask so we stayed put. Blakely and I both got up on the furniture (we had permission!) and were totally breaking it down, so we had a blast. One of the staff guys was a dancing fool too and it was hilarious. We also had a congo line, which I am normally against, but something just came over me! It was good times. However, I'm not going to lie, when Ellen came out and was up on the big screen, I teared up a little. I KNOW-sooo pathetic, but I really really REALLY wanted to be in that audience. BUT-the good news is we got re-booked for guaranteed seats in May and I don't want to get too ahead of myself, but I think it's going to be a REALLY good show.

Our show was good too. We got a sneak preview of the finale of a show (I don't know if I'm legally allowed to say anything about yet...seriously, we had to sign something) that I don't normally watch and it was a little painful. But, it was still cool to get to see it before everyone else. The guests were Lindsey Vonn, who is super pretty and gave everyone (including the Riff Raffers!) a free t-shirt that Blakely and I wore on our afternoon walk. Yes, we were matching and trying to make people think we were Olympic athletes. Lauren Graham was also there and she is really funny and really terrible at Pictionary. There was also a woman who Ellen discovered on YouTube and was PHENOMENAL. She was unbelievable! And super cute. And Ellen talked to the audience at the very end and it was special. On commercial breaks the screens didn't show us what was going on onstage, but I think there were some dance contests or something with the audience members, I don't know. I bought a shirt that is extremely comfy and Blakely won a shirt for dancing like a go-go girl.

Anyways, the whole thing was super fun and it just makes me love Ellen even more. And makes me want to be her international ambassador EVEN MORE. So what I think I'm going to do is start a letter/email writing campaign. I am going to get people from all over the world (and US) to send in something on my behalf saying that I would make a good Ellen diplomat. If you're interested, let me know. And if you know people in other countries that would do it too, let me know! I don't know if this will work, but I'm going to at least try. Should be interesting.

So that was Ellen. Oh yeah! Since we were Riff Raffers, we were the first people to leave and get out of the parking garage and we saw her driving! She was turning right and we were turning left and were like, right behind her! And we were trying to wave at her and then we noticed some security people in the car behind her (next to us) looking sternly at us. Then he rolled down his window so we stopped immediately. I mean, we were just trying to get a wave! Calm down. The security guy was ridiculously hot too, so that just made it more embarrassing. Oh well.

Also, I got to drive to work today and it was soooo great. It took HALF the time on the bus, wasn't sketchy and annoying and there were no funny smells involved. I REALLY wish I had a car. And a non-broken computer. But that is for another day.

Well, I've got two months to get my letter writing campaign up and running. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks to everyone that has been so supportive and interested in my Ellen experience, y'all are awesome.

Dream big people! :)

01 March 2010

AHHHHHHHHHHH

Sooo, this weekend pretty much sucked hardcore. Among other stupid things, I broke my new makeup and my computer, church made me horribly sad and I realized a lot of people suck. And I HATE when I realize people suck! You know, you're going along...thinking things are fine and then there is that moment where you're like, awwww man, this person sucks. And what are you gonna do? Oh well. Keep looking for non-sucky people I guess. And ugggh, I'm so depressed about my computer. Daaaaammmmnnnnnnn it.

BUT-things got better today. Blakely and I went to the beach and it was sooo beautiful and so fun. Sadly, I did not take my camera or I would show you. Then we had a super fabulous dinner involving yummy guacamole. However, my dumb self drank WAY to much soda. And by that, I mean a glass. And now I am super crazy wired because soda makes me a crazy person. I'm having trouble typing this. So I'll wrap it up.

ELLEN IS TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so excited, I seriously can't even stand IT! AHHHHHH!!!!! Ok, I'm going to pick out an outfit, make a playlist and cross everything possible that we actually get in the audience and then she notices me and offers me a job.

DREAM HUGE PEOPLE!
